About 16.7 million people had no online banking services as of Friday morning as Capitec Bank continued to struggle to get back online.
As of 8 a.m. Friday, the bank confirmed that it continues to experience infrastructure issues with its central servers that support its banking channels.
The issue began Thursday morning and affected the bank’s application, internet banking, and Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD) services.
“We realize this is a terrible experience for our customers and we apologize for any inconvenience caused if you have tried to use our banking app, USSD and internet banking services in the past 24 hours,” the company said. bank.

Capitec customers were not impressed. Many took to Twitter to complain that their bank accounts reflected “insufficient funds”.
